I found maggots on my stove in my apartment today and don't know what to do. any suggestions?
My apartment started smelling badly in the kitchen but we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Today my roommate turned on our gas oven to bake a cake and we saw maggots on the top of the stove. We pulled the unit out and looked underneath but found no food or more maggots. We lifted the burner covers and everything off of the stove top to find hundreds of maggots but still no rotten food-just some grease. We killed them, bleached everything and scrubbed it down but we are afraid we didn't get all of them. We were also wondering if maybe there's something down inside the unit that we can't see that's attracting them and the only reason they came to the surface was because of the heat of the oven being on. We now have sprayed chemicals on the stove, the burners won't ignite and we're scared to turn on the oven. Any suggestions? Advice? Observations?
Even if you didn't get all of the maggots, don't worry. They will only be there for a few days until they turn into flies. Just be sure to not leave any food out, clean under the burner covers on a regular basis and make sure to take your trash out at least every other day. (it's best to get a smaller trash can so you have to take your trash out more often and you're not wasting the big bags with just a little garbage)
As for the burners not igniting, I'm not an expert but could you have accidentally disconnected something that wasn't supposed to be? Or maybe didn't reassemble something properly? Honestly, I would have a guy friend or dad or somebody come over and take a look. I wouldn't want to mess around with that and possibly have a gas leak. Good luck!
