Modern Country Kitchen?

I am moving to a farm house soon and have a hard time finding items to furnish my kitchen. I'm use to more contemporary items yet the home is a in the country a remodeled farm house. Someone suggested to do a "modern country" kitchen theme but can't find anything.I don't like traditional country items such as roosters and apples or primitive decor, etc - it's not "me".

I guess what I'm looking for are kind of straight edges, a home-y feel, pieces that don't match but go together, prints and patterns, one or two colors - anyone have any ideas, pictures, suggestions? You're on the right track, going with cleaner lines and less fuss than most think of when doing "country". What colors do you like? You can adapt nearly any color scheme to work so don't let the "theme" back you into a color you're not crazy about!

Scour yard sales, auctions, tag sales for a accessories and some furniture pieces. Minor repairs, a new coat of paint and new hardware do wonders!

We painted all our cabinets (painted cabinets seem more "country") and most of the walls in cream. Husband made my counters out of wood planks and stained them oak with a tung oil finish and they are beautiful! And they are holding up well. It's been about 4 years since we put them in and they could use another coat of tung oil but overall, I'm quite happy with them. We have a country but not busy print wallpaper on the back splash area and the soffit area above the sink. Accessories are crocks, old kitchen tools, simple fabrics like cotton, linen, unbleached muslin all work. But on the modern end, I have black and stainless appliances. I keep rugs simple but within the colors in the room, same for the chair upholstery. And I even had a small washstand that is painted barn red in there. Take your time, buy what you love and work within the colors you like and it will look awesome!
