I have a two-tier Wood and Sons England plates -gold scalloped-pink/yellow rose in ctr edged w/gold leaves.?
I don't know their value but would like to get a general idea. There is a hole in the middle of the plates so I'm assuming this was some kind of 2 tier dessert tray. The bottom plate is about 12" in diameter and the smaller one is about 8". The edges are scalloped in gold - the background of the plates is cream colour. The edge of the plate is raised and flutted with a thick gold edge. The numbers on the bottom are 2 62 and 2 63 exactly as shown. Can anyone help me out?
This is the Rosedale pattern and is not uncommon. As it has England with the name it is probably 20th century and the name Wood and Sons was used from 1907 to 1910 so it is dated within three years. It is part of a cake stand and these were popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The value is not high - below £50 each. It is important to keep the gold leaf in immaculate condition so be careful with wiping and no dish washer. They were Staffordshire potters and at one time employed over a thousand people but I regret they went into receivership in 2005.
This company were the main makers of Toby jugs at about the turn of the last century.
