Can any one tell me the equivalent for 1 cake (5/8 oz) compressed yeast. ?
I want to make a recipe of my Grandmothers for Kifle cookies for Christmas and I have no idea what a "cake" of yeast is. In the instructions it says "Stir flour and salt into mixing bowl and crumble in yeast" Then cut in butter with pastry cutter. Can you still buy a "cake" of yeast ??
You can buy cake yeast in the refrigerator section of the grocery. A packet of yeast (pick up in the baking aisle) is equal to a cake of yeast. If you have a jar of loose yeast, 2 1/4 teaspoons = one cake.
