Savory "Cookie" Appetizer?
Not to be sacreligious or anything, but I am not a huge fan of all sweets on the holidays, not even chocolate. I prefer salt and fat - lol.
For a Christmas party I'm going to, I want to create some sort of pastry, cut it out with cookie cutters like sugar cookies, and decorate it with, say, cream cheese colored with paprika or turmeric or avocado paste or whatever, flavored with different things, piped on just like you would on a gingerbread man or something...using bits of olive for eyes, etc.
Any suggestions for the "frosting" so far as colors and flavors and ingredients go? Any other suggestion of things to decorate them with? Any pastry suggestions? I want these to look a lot like real sugar cookies. Thanks.
I think this is a great idea and also good for tea parties, bridal showers, etc.
Pastry ideas: phyllo/puff pastry, frozen pizza dough, frozen biscuits that you can peel apart the layers. Also white sandwich bread with the crusts cut off. Roll the bread to flatten it, cut the shapes out, then toast in the oven.
You have plenty of ideas already going. Have fun!
